It’s all about the light

Photography is all about the light: the strength, colour and direction of light and how these affect the image of the subject and background. As a result, the story being told varies greatly. Special times are “the golden hour” when the light is rapidly changing – sunrise and sunset – and when the mixture of fading natural light and artificial light sources blend into a pink-purple “magic time”. Sometimes you can prepare for an expected lighting event. Other times, if you don’t have your camera with you, you cannot capture the sudden appearance of special light. Warm clothes, a tripod and a lot of patience are needed!

None of these images have been edited to create the colours you see nor have I used coloured filters. All of these show the range of light that was there before I got the camera out. You take the picture in your head and the camera records (hopefully) what you see.
